Winter

Dripping off dirty snow piles

To land

In newly ripened mud.

A fine vintage

Of a deep chocolate color

With hints of spring

And notes of new life.

Decanted and pored

Spilling over the sidewalk

And staining

The fine lattice tablecloth

Of lingering snow.

Seeping into the water table

And sending up sprouts

Drunk with spring.
