Listening to the wind
Whistling through
The window cracks-
More layers tomorrow

Wednesday, January 30, 2013

Memories
Welling up inside
The thought from the heart
Passed tightened throat
And quivering lips
Behind misted eyes
And beyond our senses
Lingers in our minds
As we recall cherished moments.

When the kids have too much CSW
And it's recess duty day
I sneak a peek
At Panda Cam
And pretend I'm in San Diego.

Monday, January 28, 2013

Catholic Schools Week
Bingo and books
P.J.s and pizza
Scrabble with friends
Mass with our buddies
Colors and costumes
Time to unwind!

Sunday, January 27, 2013

From the grey clouds
To the tops of leaden branches
From silvery wires heavy with snow
To already slushy street
It's a gloomy Sunday.

Saturday, January 26, 2013

St Paul Winter Carnival Parade
And Crashed Ice
St Paul rocks!

Friday, January 25, 2013

Rooftop smoke signals
Chimneys sending out an S.O.S.
On a cold January day.

Thursday, January 24, 2013

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Cold as the Doctor's stethoscope
Warm as his heart.
Frigid as the smiles
In the waiting room.
Melting as the fever
Heats up.

We're goin' to Hawaii
We're goin' to Hawaii...

Monday, January 21, 2013

Poets are the voice
Of those of us who can't speak.
To set our words to the music
Of our lives.
To paint the pain and joy
Of being human.
To tell the story
Of being alive.

Sunday, January 20, 2013

Cabin fever
Or a real fever
Hard to tell during a cold snap
In flu season.

Saturday, January 19, 2013

Cold winds outside
Makes us appreciate
The warm embrace
Of our home
And loved ones.

Friday, January 18, 2013

I need to float
Before I drown.
Pulled under
And slapped by surf.
I need a life jacket.
To  rise above
To be buoyed by blessings.

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Looking at the familiar
In a new way
Seeing the day
Through fresh eyes
A vacation for the mind.

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Fear of chaos
Out of control
The look of terror
In a child's eye
Trying to scream the demons out
Trying to wrestle back
A sense of self.

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

My panda makes me laugh.
San Diego memories
Come alive on Pandacam.
As he lounges in the sun
Or climbs the branches-
The spirit of joy
In black and white.

Monday, January 14, 2013

Hawaii Dreams
The warm sun
Belies the winter chill
Outside my window.
Safe and warm inside
Pretending the snow
Is a white sand beach.

Sunday, January 13, 2013

Ancestors' dreams
Through time
Transformed
Standing on a distant shore
Peering into the unknown
With grace
And genes
To touch the future.

Saturday, January 12, 2013

Tears hallowing out the heart.
Saltwater dissolving hurt
And smoothing out the rough edges,
Creating new paths
And carving out fresh spaces
To fill with love again.

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Our lives
Like sentences on a page
A meaningless alphabet
Without the pause
Of spaces between events.

"Life is not about things,
It is about relationships.
It is the hands we go on holding
In our hearts
At the end
That defines the kind of life
We have led."
-Joan Chittister

Events spilling over
Into others paths,
Footprints tiptoe
Or tromp
Creating beauty
And havoc as we go.
Wending our way
Crisscrossing lives
Creating a map
Of our journey
And the road
To our destination.

Saturday, January 5, 2013

Like the cells making up out bodies
Moments create our lifelines.

Friday, January 4, 2013

Sunset
A flash of brilliance
Going out in style,
Like a life
Lived gloriously.
Awash in every color
Aware of every hue
Proud to be of earth
Yet reaching for heaven.

Thursday, January 3, 2013

Snowflakes
Like feathery down
Floating from the soft
Grey blanketed sky

Wednesday, January 2, 2013

Thanks, Rose and Mike
For your friendship
And a wonderful lunch!
