The only control I have
Is whether to worry a lot
Or a little.
To ruin a perfectly beautiful day
On the chance it may rain
Makes as much sense
As to think about
What could happen
Or what might have been.

Clipping a weed here
Trimming a vine there
A haircut for the garden.
Wild ferns falling
Like dreadlocks.
A buzz cut for the bee balm.
A perm for formal hybrids
A precision cut
For an avaunt gard garden.
The garden hardly needs
My makeover
But it makes me feel better.

Rain washes away the residue
Cleans the streets
And collects the trash.
Rain sings a song of calm and clean
Fresh and new
Begin again.
Rain starts and stops
Never ending
Ever remembering.
Rain strips away the facade
And leaves us in wonder
At the rainbow.

Gather Ye rosebuds while ye May...
I have to start appreciating
The beautiful garden that greets me
Every morning at my back door.
Rather than closing my mind and rushing past
Thinking that if I don't notice
It will make the blooms last longer
And not fade away.

Thursday
Rain Rain go away
Or on second thought
Go ahead
And stay away for the weekend!
Wednesday, May 23, 2012
How does the rose know when to bloom?
How does the 4 AM bird know when to sing?
How does the rain know it's the weekend?
How do the clouds know we miss the sun?
How do we know when it's June
If May is like this?

We are proud to announce that Ms. Kathy Clark our long-time teacher has been chosen to receive the West Seventh Community Service Award (formerly David Sons Award). Kathy is not only an excellent teacher and role model in our school, she volunteers at the St. Paul Public Library and has volunteered for many years at the local newspaper, the Community Reporter. On June 14 she will be honored at a dinner at Mancini's. If you see Ms. Clark, please let her know how happy we are to have her as a part of our school family.

The nerve screaming pain
Becomes a pina colada
On the beach.
The sound of the drill
Drowned out
By the ocean's roar.
Brilliant blue sky scrubs
And florescent light sun
Take my breath away
As I go the happy place
In my mind
While my body goes
To the dentist.

Baby steps
Things change slowly.
Like mountains pushing up
To touch the sky.
Like a glacier
Creeping by inches.
Cumulative increases
Are as minute
As one thin sheet of paper
On top of another
Until the book is done.

Mother's Day
Connected by compassion
The art of empathy
To see and feel
Through another person
To hover and hold
To help and protect
To be forever bound
By whatever bonds
Form family
Is to be a mother.

Fight or Flight?
Sometimes the appropriate response is neither.
But just stand quietly
Let the chaos swirl around you
And be in the eye of the storm.

I'm late I'm late
It must not be a very important date.
By being a victim and out of control,
By yelling and screaming
Is it someone else's fault?
If at the whim of circumstances
Does that excuse you
For not picking up your kid?

Mother's Mass
Our mothers are always with us;
In our hearts
In our hands
In how we give
And how we receive.
Looking out from behind our eyes;
Catching a familiar gesture
A repeated phrase.
We are forever bound
Like a string on your finger
Tying generations
And reminding of the past.

Realize the stress around me
Is of my own making.
No one can make you feel
The pressure you put on yourself.
Smile and let out the tension
Breath in the fresh air.

A life cut short
A thread too early snipped
As life unraveled
Unable to see the pattern
Lost in the chaos.

Pressure
Releasing pressure.
Thumb in the muscle
Like playdoh.
Tissue mounding over
And reforming
Into new shapes.
Stiff and sore
Becoming soft and pliable.
Stretching like a rubber band
Then rest.

A peaceful day
On the front porch
Lacks the drama
And passion
Of a hurricane.
Waxing poetic
About tranquility
Isn't as romantic
As the raw emotions
Stirred by darker days.
The Zen of being
In the quieter moments
Lacks the tempestuousness
Of the Rapture.
A relaxing day on the deck
May be nice
But it's nothing to write about.
